What Causes Blood In Urine And Constipation?

My father in law is 96 and has blood in his urine, what could cause this? He also has a problem with constipation. I didn t realize you needed money for an answer, the medical cost in America is already a problem, apparently your othe is no longer an issue, it is your wallet that counts. Shame on this site.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Blood in the urine (hematuria) can be due to different possible causes such as: (1) trauma to any aspect of the urinary tract
(2)infection
(3)kidney disease
(4)mass in the the urinary tract
(5)stone
(6)blood disorder

An urine test at his doctor's office would help with diagnosis in addition to physical examination.

Treatment would depend the cause found.

Constipation is usually initially addressed with increasing fluid and fiber intake.

If it is difficult to get enough fiber from food then using fiber supplement may be helpful eg benefiber, cetrucil, metamucil

I hope this helps
