What Causes Blood In Urine And Frequent Urination?

I had blood in my urine last week, the E.R. told me to follow up with a urologist. I made an appointment for next week. but, in the meantime I have to urinate almost every 40 minutes, I did not experience any more blood in my urine but I feel uncomfortable in that area, and I have a slight burning sensation when I urinate and I feel like I have to urinate even when I don t. what could this be? I am 52 year old AFRICAN AMERICAN. I AM NOT Diabetic, or suffer from any diseases at the present.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Blood in urine could be due to urinary tract infection, any growth and stone in the urinary tract.
But mostly it is associated with the pain in the abdomen.
I would suggest to consult the urologist and undergo detailed examination, urine routine, microscopic, culture and sensitivity, USG scan and cystoscopy if needed.
Specific treatment will depend on the cause
Infection require: proper antibiotic,
Meanwhile You can take tablet pyridium and syrup cital
Drink plenty of water and juice of cranberry, orange and pineapple
Maintain proper pelvic hygiene, do not delay in empty the bladder and empty it completely
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
