Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Blood In Urine And Pain Around The Kidney Area?
My daughter is 15. She just went to the doctor. She has white and red blood cells in her urine. She has pain at her kidney level and coming around the side to the front on her right side. The doctor didn't prescribe any medication, but has ordered a kidney ultrasound. (We are waiting for the ultrasound appointment to be scheduled.)
From the description you gave,it seems your child has got urinary tract infection due to kidney stones.
Ultra sound report will help to know number, size and exact location of stones.also it will help to know the status of kidney and ureter due to stones,as their swelling can be a cause of pain and that will help to decide if any invasive procedure should be opted. She will be also prescribed antibiotic course like cipro for 7-10 days.
What can be done till then is,tablet mefenamic acid, anti spasmodic can be taken twice a day for relief of pain. Maintain adequate hydration by taking minimum 8-10 glasses of water per day.it will help in flushing out the stone if any.Can have cranberry juice to alkalinize the urine. Let her have adequate bed rest.
Hope this information helps. Wish her good health.
