General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation your step father is going through.

The dark yellow color of the urine is due to the presence of blood.
The foul smelling might be due to:
- infection
- high concentrated urine

Drinking plenty of water can help dilute the urine, thus, the symptoms will get improved.

He might need a course of antibiotics to treat infection and not only drinking water.

Magnesium citrate can help optimize his urine pH.

As he is 84 years old, if I was his caring doctor would advise to check his prostate too for related pathologies.

All the best!
