Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a baby boy 3 days ago. A few minutes ago I changed his diaper and noticed there was some blood in his urine. I have been exclusively breastfeeding him and did have some blood from scanning on my nipple while he fed. Is he ok or should I see if it happens again and take him in to a doctor?
Hello dear, Welcome to HCM. Don't worry. He has Uric acid crystals. During the first week after birth the excretion of uric acid with the urine is excessive. Increased uric acid concentrations are the result of purine and pyrimidine compounds, which are formed in the presence of leucocyte lysis. The urine color appears yellowih-red due to the presence of uric acid crystals and an orange -colored sediment in the diapers are seen. You can give to baby fennel water between feedings( during day near 30ml). Kind regards Dr.Svetlana Shrivastva
