What Causes Blood In Urine, Painful Urination And Pain In Pelvic Area?

My brother has had blood in his urine X 1week, bright red at first then less so, pain on urination, pain in the R pelvic area close to the hip. Of note he also has a chest & sinus infection. On Amoxicillin but doesn t seem to be helping. Kidney stones have been ruled out, no chest X-ray was done. The doctor wants to refer him to oncology for prostate testing. Our question is are we looking for only a cancer or are there other possibilities?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think your brother is having narrowing of the urinary pathways. In men, this is because:
- Enlarged prostate
- Bladder tumor
This explains why they referred to oncology. They need to check it out for final diagnosis. Please follow up with the oncologist, and take medications as prescribed.

All the best. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
