What Causes Blood In Urine While Suffering From A Kidney Stone?
I have blood in my urine on occasion. I have a confirmed kidney stone in one kidney. The blood disappeared after as few days but l have a Backache and mild pelvic cramps. UTI was ruled out. What Type of test is recommend for further screening? My family dr. Advised to monitor if blood appears again. I have a routine follow up with urologist in 6 weeks. Should I wait that long?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Blood in the urine with confirmed history of kidney stones along with experiencing back pain and pelvic cramps indicates that the stone could get dislodged and struck in the ureter. If the stone size is less than 7 mm, then it may get dislodged and pass through urine.
In case the symptoms reoccur again, you need to consult a urologist promptly for evaluation and intervention. Otherwise, you can wait for your scheduled appointment. Drink good quantities of water and consume citrus fruit juices.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
