Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the last month I have noticed what appears to be blood in my urine. It is not all the time but I notice it then it seems to get lighter but then maybe a couple days later it comes back. The color is a darker golden brown then when it goes away it seems to be back to a normal color of urine. I am 56 yrs old and no health problems that I know of that would cause this. I feel fine but just noticed the discolored urine. I have noticed this in the past when I might have done some physical exertion. What could this be? Mike Brown YYYY@YYYY
Blood in urine is not a good sign. The following are few causes of blood in urine: 1) Urethral injury 2) Kidney stones 3) Urinary tract infection 4) Kidney infection 5) Cancer bladder 6) Enlarged prostate 7) Use of anticancer drugs like cyclophosphamide. 8) After hard exercise and sports
But blood in urine is to be investigated inevitably. The following are few investigations required: 1) Complete urine examination 2) Urine culture and sensitivity 3) Ultrasound imaging of kidneys and bladder.
Please do consult a nephrologist and discuss the above mentioned details for appropriate treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
