What Causes Blood In Urine?

I have had 2 dipstick urinalysis that revealed blood in the urine with no other symptoms or abnormalities i.e. no sugar, bacteria, etc. EKG normal. Vital signs all normal. No pain or other symptoms. Urine is normal in color so must be microscopic. One Dr said it could be bladder cancer. What are the options here?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

The presence of blood in urine in a dipstick urinalysis needs further confirmatory tests like: microscopic examination of the urine in the lab.

We cannot confirm cancer until we make sure other pathologies are excluded like urinary stones or sludge.
So, run a microscopy urine analysis first, abdominal ultrasound, and ultrasound of genital tract.

In this way we can understand what is really happening with you.

For the moment, I advise to:
- increase fluids intake
- take cranberry supplements

Wish fast recovery.
