Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a male, 67 yrs old and had blood in my urine that was noticeable with the naked eye accompanied by some very mild lower abdominal pressure. I have a history of prostatitis and was told to take an antibiotic which immediately eliminated the visible blood and the discomfort. I am a week into taking the antibiotics and a urine dipstick is showing 1+ blood. I have been referred to a urologist and will make an appointment for as soon as I an get one. Just want your opinion/ideas?
Prostatitis may cause blood in urine but it may not be related to antibiotic unless you're allergic to the drug.
Please get done the urine examination, microscopy and culture sensitivity. Use tablet Nitrofurantoin. If symptoms not improved please consult your urologist, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu,
