What Causes Blood Spots Below The Eyelid After Undergoing Macular Hole Repair?

I had surgery to repair a macular hole 5 days ago and recovery has been going well so far. Today I noticed that there is some blood when I pull my lower eyelid down and a little in the corner. Is this something I should be alarmed about or is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have undergone surgery for macular hole 5 days ago. Post operative recovery is good. Presently, you noticed blood in the lower eye lid and also in the corner of the eye. You are experiencing post operative complications of macular hole repair surgery. You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by your treating surgeon / doctor to rule out infection.

Raised eyes pressure can damage optic nerve. Bleeding in the eyes post operation occurs very rarely, but severe bleeding within the eye can result in blindness. Retinal detachment is also a post operative complication that may lead to blindness. You are suggested to get examined, get treated at the earliest. Do not scratch or touch your eyes. Avoid doing any heavy or strenuous work. Take care of your hygiene.

Do not take stress, give adequate rest to your eyes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
