Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having diarrhea in small amounts and appears to be bloody (black). Also experiencing pain in my stomach. Do I need to go to ER or can I set up an appointment for next week after I return from my business trip? Could this be a stomach ulcer or is it likely more serious? Appetite is normal and pepto does not help.
It can be anything which is causing bloody stools: like the gastric or duodenal ulcer, diverticulitis, polyps, etcetera. All conditions can cause tarry stools, which will go for 7 more days. You do not have to worry so much since it is not an emergency.
But to find out the etiology, get an appointment with the gastroenterologist and get colonoscopy done to rule out the above-mentioned condition. If anything is found, then they will treat you appropriately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
