What Causes Blotchy Red Rash On The Bottom Of Leg And Foot?

Hi, I have started having sunbeds after about a 6 month break off of them. Last year i had a blotchy leg (on the inside of my calf) this disappeared when I stopped the sunbeds. Now this time I have the same blotch red rash type thing on the bottom of my leg going onto my foot. Do you know what this is?

Hello,

You are suffering from skin blotches, red rash at the bottom of your leg going on to your foot. You have history of taking sunbed. Sunbeds cause exposure of the skin to UV rays. Prolonged exposure to UV rays increases your risk of developing rashes, blotches, malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Certain factors if given wrongly can cause damage to your skin like the strength of UV rays from the sunbed, the length of your sunbed sessions, how often you use a sunbed, your skin type, your age, etc.

Over exposure to UV rays, dry skin type, allergies, unhygienic tanning beds, etc., can cause such symptoms. Sunbeds are given very cautiously, considering many factors so that people may not suffer from adverse effects. Since you are experiencing red rashes you should consult a dermatologist, get skin tests done, get treated. Avoid continuing sunbed sessions till you are not healed. You are suggested not to scratch it. Apply anti bacterial cream for relief and take antihistamine, one SOS at bed time for 3-5 days. Keep the affected area clean.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
