What Causes Blotchy Red Spots On The Legs While On Lovastatin And Losartan?
My husband takes Lovastatin for cholesterol and losartan for high blood pressure. Dr. prescribed 2nd losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide to bring BP down. With diet and exercise at the same time, BP last measured at 110. However, while on the additional drugs, husband work up with red blotchy spotting on feet and legs. Dr. cut out the Hydrochlorothiazide and after questioning dropped the 2nd losartan. The red blothcy-ness has faded, the question is: What caused the blotchy red spots. Husband has complained of tingling and pain in feet for a number of years. Dr. now has him on Gabapentin 900 mg per day. We dont like taking pills - concerned !c
Losartan can cause angioedema or allergic reactions so it can also cause skin symptoms. It's better to add a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine if BP is still uncontrolled.
Station induced muscle problems can exist so better to get CPK and LDH levels to rule out those. Meanwhile, gabapentin dose may be reduced as its very high in my opinion.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

What Causes Blotchy Red Spots On The Legs While On Lovastatin And Losartan?
Hi, First of all, it s sad to know what your husband had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, hydrochlorothiazide may cause increased uric acid and may cause leg symptoms as you shared. Losartan can cause angioedema or allergic reactions so it can also cause skin symptoms. It s better to add a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine if BP is still uncontrolled. Station induced muscle problems can exist so better to get CPK and LDH levels to rule out those. Meanwhile, gabapentin dose may be reduced as its very high in my opinion.
