What Causes Blue Discoloration On The Toes While Suffering From Rheumatoid Arthritis?
15 year old with symptoms of RA for past 2 years. Progressing. Has temp of 100-102 during flare ups which are more frequent and more severe. During the current flare up has developed blue toes. They are not cold to the touch. Was wearing tan socks and a light brown shoe so not discolored from dye in socks or shoes. Has been diagnoses with mild von Willebrands. Please share your thoughts on a possible diagnosis.
This can be either sue to arterial insufficiency (meaning not enough blood is reaching the toes) or due to vascular insufficiency (meaning blood is pooling in the toes not able to be efficiently pumped by to the heart) and therefore creating a damming effect. Either way the distal digital are being deprived of oxygen. there are medications both oral and topical as well as manual therapeutic modalities (compression, exercises etc) that can increase oxygenation of the distal digits.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
