What Causes Blurred Vision That Can Last For Hours?

I have been having daily spells of blurred vision lasting minutes to hours for the past month. I get no headache but I am very, very tired afterwards. I saw my eye doctor today and he said he is 99 percent sure it is not a problem with my eyes. He said it could be ocular migraines but my symptoms are atypical. I am female and 54 years old. Is this likely ocular migraines? It is disconcerting to have my vision interrupted by blurriness like this. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your diagnosis may be ocular migraine, if it is in one eye. However, in your case, the other causes of transient reduced blood supply to retina or optic nerve should be ruled out by retinoscopy or intracranial angiography. Recurrent thrombo-embolic phenomenon of the area of brain supplying to the eye may be a cause also. Hypertension and diabetes may be some of the other reasons for your complaints.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
