What Causes Body Ache Along With Fever?

My 13 yo son has the flu. He didn t feel well yesterday am so I let him stay home from school. He layed in bed all day and by 8 or 9:00 pm, he was running 102.7 fever. He is aching all over, basically running a fever of about 101.9 every time his ibuprofen wears off, itchy and runny nose (pretty bad), sore throat, cough (not terrible bad) and very little appetite (only had 2 bowls of ice cream since yesterday am). I ve been giving him 3 ibuprofen for the fever (he weighs 160 lbs), and every 6 hours or so, I give him Theraflu and 2 Benadryls for the runny nose. What else or what differently should I be doing and how long does it normally last (this is day 2). Thanks!!!! Jaime (Mom)

Hello,

The signs of high-grade fever with a sore throat, cold, body ache suggests viral fever. Viral fever needs symptomatic treatment to ease the symptoms. If not secondarily infected with bacteria, viral fever settles down in eight days of onset.

Give him over the counter yet medicine Sinarest half pill thrice a day. Coscopin cough syrup in case cough is more tablet paracetamol three times a day with food if the temperature is running high. All medicines to be given eight hourly after food or glass of milk. (Doses to be confirmed by his doctor according to his grade of symptoms and his body weight.)

Give him rest, plenty of warm water and light nourishing food. Giving ice cream in the sore throat may harm. Sign him do gargles, avoid inhalation. In case symptoms aggravate, or there is no relief at all in five days. Take him to his doctor for antibiotics.
