What Causes Body Chills And Fever While Suffering From Strep Infection?

My son has been on antibiotics for 24 hours after a positive test for strep. However, he is still having chills and fever as high as 102.4. He has mouth ulcers, possibly from wisdom teeth, but also a stiff neck. He has had periods of feeling better, but the chills and fever are returning periodically. Is this normal with a case of severe strep? Should we see a doctor or go to the emergency room, or see if symptoms are better tomorrow?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi,

I can understand your concern.

Yes, you should definitely take him to hospital.

Till that, ask him to drink plenty of fluids orally, avoid oily and spicy food.

Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar, Pulmonologist
