yes my sister went to the Dr today and they said she has an upper respiratory infection. she has diabetes and is allergic to rymaniacin Tetracycline and Codine. The PA prescribed benzonatate 200mg one capsule every 6 to 8 hrs as needed for cough. & Amox-Clav 875-125mg one tab 2d times a day so far she has only taken one dose of each medication at 8PM and cough ine at around ^pm she woke up about an hour ago very ichy should we stop these medications?
Hello Dear. Allergy can arise due to any medicines. Your sister may be allergic to many medicines. Some of the possible side effects of amoxi-clav are
1. mild diarrhea, gas, stomach pain; 2. nausea or vomiting; 3. headache; 4. skin rash or itching; 5. white patches in your mouth or throat; or 6. vaginal yeast infection (itching or discharge)
You contact the doctor and ask if the medicines have to be changed. If the reaction is mild not affecting daily routine or sleep then the doctor may suggest to continue the full course of 5 days. If it is severely disturbing her then the doctor may ask to stop and suggest an alternate drug.
Also it is better to get Complete blood count of your sister. If there is increase eosinophils (a type of white blood cell), a condition called eosinophilia, then it suggest increased allergen in the blood. In this case the doctor may suggest the patient to take Tab Benocid forte or Hetrazan , 3 times a day for about 10 days to clear the allergen.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
