What Causes Body Rashes And Sore Throat While On Lamictal?

My 21 yr old daughter has been taking lamictal for nearly eight weeks building up to 50 mg in am and 100 mg pm. She is bi-polar not epileptic. She has had an occasional hive but never a rash nor a redness patches. Today she started with a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, stiff neck and body aches. She is also congested and there are a lot of cold going on at her workplace. Should we wait a day or two to see if it s just a cold or consider going to the ER in case these are serious side effects from the medication?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to a viral infection.

I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.

I also recommend using a throat spray.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
