What Causes Border Line Changes As Per Smear Test?

I have been informed that my smear test showed'boarder line changes'. I read leaftlet enclosed with the result butI am so worried nothing seems to sink in. Having to wait 6 months before I am next tested seems so far away. Could you please let me know what may be the cause for these changes?

All my previous results have been normal.

I am 49 years of age and not sure if I am going through my menopause. My periods, since comming off the contraceptive pill April '11 have not been normal. Not too regular and not always a proper bleed. Also exactly 4 days before my smear test I had to take the morning after pill. Would these factors affect the smear test result? Please advise, I am sick with worry! thank you.
