Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After visiting my daughter in NY I contacted a severe case of vomiting and diaharrea. While I am at home now in PA and feeling much better after following the brat diet I continue to have loose stools that are yellow....last episode at my daughter s was exactly one week ago. Any significance here? Always have had a sensitive digestive system, am 75 yrs. old female taking numerous meds...blood pressure, fluid, reflux, eye vitamins, choles. med, etc.
It sounds like you had a bout of 'food poisoning', which can be caused by toxins, bacteria, viruses and other things. When we ingest something bad, our body tries to eliminate it by vomiting and having diarrhea. In general, these symptoms do go away and can be treated at home.
Rarely, dehydration can occur along with electrolyte imbalances. Your continues loose stool is common and may take a few more weeks to return to normal. If it doesn't get better in the next week or so, seeing a medical provider can help as sometimes tests need to be done.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
