Hello,
I understand your mother has been having some very high blood pressures.
This is something that happens with patients often, and when they do not have any concerning symptoms, normally there is no need to bring them to the ER.
However, if your mother started having symptoms like change in mental status, weakness, nausea or
vomiting,
chest discomfort,
severe back pain, or
shortness of breath, then she should be evaluated as soon as possible for signs of organ damage from high blood pressure.
If she continues to have only occasional
dizziness or a mild headache, I don't think she would need to go to the ER, but you should contact her doctor's clinic to let them know.
Her doctor may want to adjust her blood pressure medications to get her blood pressure down gradually.
Or, based on her doctor's knowledge of your mother's other medical history, he or she may want your mother to get evaluated sooner.
I hope that helps and that your mother's blood pressure gets under control quickly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
