What Causes Bowel Urgency After Taking Generic Zetia?

My pharmacy recently switched my name brand Zetia to a generic. Now I have an urgent bowel movement in the morning with bits of excrement floating on top of the water with quantity of brown colored water. It does not have a bad odor nor repeat through the day or feel as though I am ill. I have not had any particular problems with bowels. Female, age 81, generally healthy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The bowel urgency sounds to be intestine flora disturbances through the intake of Ezetimibe.

Primary care with probiotics containing Lactobacillus and later on if a required change in the statin molecule should be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
