What Causes Bradycardia In An Elderly Person?

I m 69, female, and about 30 lbs. overweight. I realized I had a slow heart rate which was very unual for me (resting at 46 beats per minute, and over time, has risen and maintains at about 62. Is this OK or do I have bradycardia or something else worrisome?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

Heart rate 46 beats per minute is low obviously but if you have constant heart rate of around 46 to 65 beats per minute then it can be considered as a normal.

Because in some sports persons like athletes and foot-ball players, heart rate is constantly remain between 40 to 45 beats per minute.

In case of older ladies/woman (Age:69 years here),heart rate is also slow but it is not the worrisome symptoms especially if you are otherwise healthy.

So,if you are facing no problem and having no underlying heart pathology then there is absolutely no need to be worried regarding your heart rate since it keeps fluctuating all the time.

If you have any other symptoms with this slow heart rate and better to go for EKG and rule out any cardiac issue to be in a safer side.

Consult physician for it.
