Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes please, my fiancés breath smells like sweet corn lately and I have no idea why. I have even noticed that if he goes to the bathroom it smells like corn as well when he comes out. It s starting to concern me because it s not going away. It smells terrible. He is a drinker....would this cause the smell? It never has been a problem.
As per your complain sweet corn like breath along with similar smell in excreta is pointing towards Ketoacidois in which there is increased ketone bodies in blood caused due to excess fat metabolism and is commonly seen in individuals with high levels of blood glucose causing diabetes mellitus while a very low cab diet and crash dieting can also be a cause..
You should consult a Medicine Specialist and get him evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like fasting and post meal blood glucose levels and HbA1c levels can be done to rule out the cause and will be treated accordingly..
In case if Diabetes is the cause, he can be advised Oral Hypoglycemic drugs with a balanced diet plan and appropriate exercise to maintain proper blood sugar levels and prevent any complication..
Hope this helps..
Regards .
