What Causes Breathing Difficulty After A Bypass Surgery?

my husband has been home from quadruple bypass surgery for one week. he had surgery the Monday before, so only spent 4 days in the hospital. He has been coughing continuously and violently to a point that doesn t allow him to speak or catch his breath more than half of the time. He also had a bruise appear above his left nipple today that looked like someone punched him. Any thoughts?
