What Causes Breathing Difficulty After An Aortic Valve Replacement?

Hi. I had an aortic valve replacement 4 years ago and everything been kind of ok. This morning, I found myself out of breath for every 10 to 15 steps I take. And it hurts me at the left side of my back. Breathing hurts and I feel really weak one I can normally breath normally ( well kind of) again . I am getting worried.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the current presentation suggests compromise of respiratory drive due to various reasons, such as
- lungs related, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema or others
- heart problems, such as left ventricular hypertrophy or others
- circulatory issues related, such as valve stenosis or others

I strongly recommend to undertake a 2D echo of heart with x-ray chest for in depth evaluation and further guidelines.

Wish this information will help you. Do feel free to ask further doubts.
