What Causes Breathing Difficulty After Eating At Night?
I have a little difficulty breathing after eating, mostly at night. I m 62 and never smoked. No history of heart or lung issues in family. I have problems with sugar bread and milk causing rashes and itching. I sneeze a lot after eating and experience flem in throat after eating food with sauces and spices.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Sudhakar's Response
Thanks for your question.
Your breathing problem after eating food especially in night along with flem in throat might be due few reasons 1. Gastro esophageal reflux disease 2. Asthma As you mentioned no family history of any lung problems presently I consider you having gastro esophageal reflux disease.
I suggest you to take Tablet. Pantaprazole 40 mg 1 hour before break fast. Along with above medications life style changes needed like stop eating spicy foods, stop drinking coffee/tea, walk for 20-30 mins after eating food and if are obese i advice you to decrease weight.
I advice you to take above tablet and follow life style changes and get back to me after 3 weeks.
I the mean time if you have any concerns feel free to contact me.
