Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Chest Congestion In A Child?
My 6 year old son has a 101 fever. He is breathing hard and occasionally making noises that sound like he is grunting or clearing his throat. He woke up talking as though he was sleep talking (nonsense). After a few seconds, he was responsive again and talking normally. He has a history of febrile seizures. He was not sick prior to this morning. I ve never seen him act this strange, but he is responsive. Any ideas? Just a bug or is there greater reason for concern? Just trying to figure out whether I should stay awake all night or if these are normal side effects of a fever.
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your son.
These are normal signs and symptoms of high fever, you need to put him on paracetamol syrup to avoid further fever.
The root cause of fever needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Sleep taking and behaviour is because of fever but the fever may be because of infection that needs to be treated.
Also, make sure he is taking plenty of water to be properly hydrated, there is much water loss in high-grade fever.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
