What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Chronic Cough?
I have had trouble breathing since I was a kid over the years it has gotten worse probably due to smoking but in the last year my breathing is horrible. I wake up suffocating and cough endlessly and cant clear my breathing, no phlegm comes out. I had a chest Cray and it showed my lungs are fine. My doc listens to my breathing and says it sounds bad and I can t breath well, I don t know what I should do.
Since your chest Xray report is normal and you report to have breathing trouble since childhood it is likely that you have had asthma since childhood. Smoking has only complicated things in the form of development of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder which may not be manifested in Xyar at this stage. Things you should consider: 1) Complete blood count to assess the levels of Eosinophil which is an indicator of allergic reaction 2) Start with Montelukast therapy ( one tablet daily) 2 weeks before winter, through winter and 2 weeks after. 3) Use bronchodilators (Asthalin SA 4mg as a starting dose: one tablet daily) and corticosteroid inhaler (Budesonide 180mcg per puff one puff twice daily initially) 4) Cut down on your smoking. As a technique consider this: Fix a date for quitting, start using nicotine patch from the next day onwards, you may supplement the patch with occasional use of nicotine gums to avoid withdrawal symptoms initially)-consult a psychiatrist for properly supervised therapy.
Take care
