What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Coughing Up Of Yellow Sputum?
My male friend who is 28yrs old was healthy until about 2 weeks ago. He has now been feeling weak with difficulty breathing and coughing thick yellow to brown sputum the last couple days. He s had bouts of diarrhea and lost about 40 lbs! His tonsils looks slightly enlarged. He traveled to Africa earlier this summer He s not a smoker either. Any idea what could be going on??
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of breathing difficulty and coughing up of yellow sputum which seems to be due to severe infection of upper respiratory tract and it seems to be coinfection of bacteria and virus.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order blood test and throat swab test. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) along with decongestant and expectorant. You should avoid outside food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply mist humidifiers in room.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
