What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Pressure In Chest?

I am 77 years old woman and have had my heart looked at and it is in good shape but I still have a hard time breathing when I go up stairs it feels like a weight on my chest. The heart scope indicated a small amount of water in the heart. I am scheduled to see a pulmonary specialist. I have never smoked and do not have asthma.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Shortness of breath with climbing stairs is generally related to the heart or the lungs. So it is important that you do have a thorough check of both these organs.
You will need a chest x-ray, an ECG, a heart ultrasound, a lung function test (spirometry) and also some blood tests to rule out anemia such as CBC.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
