Causes for breathing difficulty and tight sensation in the chest are multiple but from what you describe your issue points to Asthma.
Asthma is an inflammatory reaction that affects the respiratory system in your chest where lungs and bronchus are located. The inflammatory reaction triggers a series of events in your organism causing secretions accumulating in your lungs and narrowing or airways causing really difficult for the patient to breath. This would be felt as tight sensation in the chest coupled with
difficulty breathing.
Asthma is usually worse in the night just exactly it happens to you. This happens because the levels of hormones line
adrenaline that help open airways are at their lowest levels.
The good news is that there is medication for it. You can take inhaled
salbutamol for instance. The symptoms would subside then. Depending on the severity the doctor can prescribe other medications like
corticosteroids. But the doctor will need to decide on this. You could also take salbutamol orally as a tablet.
The other problems that can cause tight chest are
angina pectoris or
heart failure. Angina pectoris would be worse when you are walking and improve when you lie down or take a rest. Heart failure would generally be accompanied but swelling of legs and
shortness of breath when lying down.
You are likely having asthma. Asthma can be triggered by allergies, infections, exercise, illness like flue, etc. Talk to a doctor to find ways you can get treatment to help ease your breathing when you have an attack. Inhaled salbutamol might be enough or might be combined with other anti -asthmatic drugs.
