What Causes Breathlessness After A Bypass Surgery?
My dad is 80 years old with known heart problems. He has had quadruple bypass surgery and now he is experiencing difficulty breathing because of fluid collection. He is on diaretics. His dr. wants him to go through a nuclear stress scan. I think it will be too much on his heart. Should he get this scan done or is there another test at this stage?

The fluid collection following bypass surgery has multiple modalities of occurrence, diagnostic approach with management criteria.
The common ones are decreased venous return, compromised respiratory reserve, cardiac compensation at a slower pace or so forth.
In our clinic, we prefer basic lab data, X-ray chest, 2D echo, pulmonary function test as primary work up and later detailed evaluations as per the need.
