What Causes Breathlessness And Chest Pain Along With Anxiety?

I am 37 years old. Feeling like Im not getting enough air. But breathing ok and sleeping ok. Not coughing. I have muscular pain in chest and back...I have had this on and off for years due to possible lymes disease. Every now and then for the past week or so I feel kinda nauseated and my balance feels off. My nose is a tad stuffy...not sure if its allergy related or dehydration. There are days that I feel perfectly good. This has been going on since June 16th. I have felt off just a couple times. I will tell you I do have anxiety. My son had open heart surgery when he was 6 months old so all of us have been to a heart doctor and have had a few echo cardiograms and ekgs ect. Mine came out clear. Just wondering why the difficulty breathing... on a scale of 1-10 10 being I cant breath Im at a 2-3.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Both your chest pain and shortness of breath can be due to anxiety. The fact that all your heart examinations and other examinations have come out normal further supports this.

I would recommend you to talk with your doctor related to your symptoms and consider starting SSRI medications for anxiety. These are well-tolerated drugs and quite effective in treating anxiety.
Also, counseling may be of benefit to help you handle your fears and stress.

I hope this gives some answers to your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
