What Causes Breathlessness Even After A Bypass Surgery?

My father had not a very successful bypass surgery in 2004. Has HBP, mild diabetes controlled with diet and meds. two months ago he started having difficulty breathing, ambulance EKG recorded that he had a heart attack, but later EKG in the hospital showed no sign of heart attack. Doctor said it was a spasm, but ever since episodes of difficulty breathing have increased to a point that his whole body starts shaking. Recently he had some fluid around his lungs, which was drained, he still has difficulty breathing, his oxygen level is normal. He doesn t drink, and hasn t smoked for several months now, he works out, watches what he eats. He has been on Amiodorane for the past 5 years.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a cardiologist and get evaluated.

We have to rule possible causes like cardiac arrhythmia and pericardial effusion.

It is better to go for an echo test also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
