What Causes Breathlessness In An Elderly Person?

My mom is 90. She has been in perfect health until my dad passed away in Sept. Since then she has had shortness of breath, it is severe sometimes and she just has to sit. She has been active in the yard, still lives on her own, but this is getting worrisome. She has been to heart dr and they put a monitor on her but they can t find anything wrong with her. We thought she was just experiencing loneliness but it does appear more to it than that. Any help would be appreciated as this is causing her to be depressed also.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated. We have to rule out possibilities like cardiac and respiratory causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
