Hi Doctor,My father is suffering from quick loss of breathe when he goes for a walk in hilly areas,he has also high cholesterol in his blood also hence he stops walking and he previously he used to smoke a lot but now he has stopped , My questions what can you suggest to solve this breathing problem . He is under medication but it seems not helping him .Please help.
It is called altitude sickness and can cause breathing problems and even stress on the heart. It is better to climb smaller distance at a time and get adjusted, then go higher. Also, it would be good to get checked up by a pulmonologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
