Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The blood vessels in my fingers break easily; I ve had half of my hand turn purple from just carrying a hanger with 2-3 items on it. This past Sunday, I carried several heavy bags and didn t seem to have a problem until a couple hours later when I noticed pain in my left thumb. I figured my thumb would turn purple, but it hasn t. I have a lump under the surface that I assume is a broken blood vessel. It isn t as sore as it was Sunday, but is still sensitive. Would you guess that it is something besides a broken vessel? Thank you.
If you notice episodes of bruising then you will need to have a check to identify the cause of it. It can be a problem with the blood cells that help with coagulation (platelets) or with the coagulation factors. Tests like a CBC, ERS, platelet count, bleeding time and coagulation time and some liver tests like ALT, AST, Bilirubin and total albumin might be helpful to rule out important causes of bruises.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
