Since all the plants are in bloom I developed bronchitis or an allergy which is a deep cough with upper chest tightness and some noises and whistling just before coughing/sneezing fits. I am on Claritin and OTC cough med but that doesn t always calm.

Hello,
From the history, it appears to be allergic bronchitis and it's due to allergy to pollens.
You should get prescribed tab Montair LC bedtime, to be continued till all symptoms resolve. Also, you should have MDI Albuterol 2 puffs whenever you have symptoms And MDI budecort 2 puff twice a day for a week. Try to prevent exposure to pollens or other kind of air exposure.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
