What Causes Brown Discoloration Under The Skin Of Fingertips?

I have met a few homeless people recently, and I notice two of them, who are whitem have brown color under their skin around their finger tips and knuckles, both are women, one in her eqrly thirties, and the other in he sixties. Is there ia condition or a disease, or a drug use that can cause this? Also, the fingers and knuckles are tender to the touch.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Darkening if the skin around those regions could most probably have resulted from mild-moderate trauma resulting from either repeated injuries or poor management of mild injuries. This is purely due to the fact that they cannot avail basic medical attention and nothing more. Only further management and a visual examination can help rule out any diseases, but from my point of view I think trauma could be the most likely cause.

Best wishes.
