What Causes Brown Discolouration And Scab On Nipples In Children?
My 13 year old daughter has one nipple that is brown and scabbed. The doctor saw secretions as well. The other side looks normal. She didn t notice this until the doctor pointed it out and we have no idea how long it s been that way.She had an ultrasound yesterday and we are waiting for the results. The tech said she didn t see anything worrisome, but repeatedly said that she d never seen anything like this in a minor. She asked if she had been injured, and we don t remember an injury at all. Her pediatrician wants her to follow up with a gynecologist, but I can t get an appointment for 2 months. Should she see a dermatologist instead?I m worried about Paget s disease. I understand this is rare in minors though. Any advice?
As per my clinical experience, the issue of brown discoloration and scab on nipples in child do indicate possible issue of hormone imbalance with development of thelarche most likely. This is not presentation of Paget's disease, usually presenting at 20 - 30s on average. Level alteration of prolactin plays a key role in this regard.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
