Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My grandson is 8 years old. The last couple of weeks, I have noticed brown patches on his cheeks. At first, it appeared to be dirt. But, after his shower and getting clean, the brown patches are still there. I m wondering what they are and are they cause for concern. Thanks!
Understanding your concern. As per your query your grandson has brown patches on cheek which is due to melasma a mild form of dermatitis. This condition is not at all harmful and will resolve with time. Need not to worry about it. You may apply mild steroid cream or pimecrolimus cream on patches for few months and these will resolve. I would suggest you to visit dermatologist once and get the patches examined properly, if you finding this condition bit embarrassing and if you really want to start medications for this. Also get your grandson tested for nutritional deficiencies like iron deficiency and calcium deficiency. Drink plenty of water.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
