What Causes Brown Sting Like Substance In Infant S Stool?
I found brown sting like things in my 8 month olds poop. He has started eating solids and has been eating butternut squash and potatoes the last two days along with his oatmeal and banana in the morning and is breastfeeding regularly. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
It is possible that the brown string-like substance in your 8-month-old's stool could be undigested pieces of food. As babies start to eat solids, their digestive systems are still developing, and it is common for them to have undigested food in their stools. However, if you notice other symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in the stool, you should contact your child's healthcare provider immediately.
It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your baby's health. Additionally, if you have any concerns about your baby's diet, you should discuss it with your pediatrician, who can provide you with guidance on appropriate foods and feeding schedules for your baby's age and needs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
