Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge With Blood In It?
I have been having a light brown discharge with a little blood mixed in. I had a hysterectomy when I was 24 years old, and I am now 56 years old. THis has been going on for a little over a week. There have been some days I do not have any discharge, but other days are pretty bad. What could this be?
Brown discharge may happen right after periods and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown. Pink or brown discharge or spotting before a period may be an early sign of pregnancy.
Not every pregnant person will experience this symptom, but some do. This discharge is caused by implantation bleeding that can happen when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterus lining.
Cervix Irritation can cause a pink, red, or brown discharge if the cervix or vaginal canal has bled slightly.
Having sexual intercourse or placing an object inside the vagina can sometimes cause this to occur. The cervix can become irritated due to infection, exposure to chemicals, or trauma too.
If this continues, visit your gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
