What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Doctor, i had a feeling today of my periods to be starting but i had to make sure to decide whether to offer my prayer(salah) or not accordingly. I am 20 years old unmarried. When i checked by wiping tissue paper over vagina to assure, i saw just brown mucus, i wiped several more times and found same brown mucus. I want to know the cause, please help me to know whether it s normal or abnormal. My periods since 2,3 years compared to my early periods (which used to be heavy and uses to last 6 days), have been lasting not more than 3 days. And i usually suffer from back ache (i know it might have no connection but my mom says you re weak judging my overall period-performance and suffering from back ache)

Hi,

There are two possibilities: such brown mucus is seen few hours before period starts in many ladies. But your back ache suggests possibility of pelvic inflammation, which also shows brown discharge any time of the cycle.

You need consultation of a gynecologist for finding/excluding the possibility of pelvic inflammation. About offering prayer you should restrain with first view of blood on pad.
