Hi there! So I ve been having brown spotting that gets heavier here and there for 2 weeks now. I ve been on the pill for years now and have always had normal periods and never spotted. This is the worst it s been and has happened for the past 3 months now. I m supposed to get my period next week and it s still going on. The only thing I can attribute it to is a lot of stress. I m changing jobs and moving across the country, so the past few months in the job search process has been very stressful. Then just this morning, my boyfriend and I had sex and now I m bleeding. Any suggestions as to what s going on?!
Brown vaginal spotting occurs when there is retained blood or endometrial tissue and passes on after few days. However, the cause for it needs to be determined and treated accordingly. Commonly, the cause could be uterine polyps, cervicitis and endometrial inflammation.
For this you need a per speculum examination and an ultrasound scan of the abdomen. Kindly consult a gynecologist for appropriate evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further. All the best.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
