What Causes Brownish Discharge After Menstruation?

My periods got over on the 25th of september and i had unprotected sex with my hubby on 30th september around 4.30pm. I took an ipill next day that is 1st october around 1pm. Then again i had unprotected sex the same day - 1st october twice that is post 3pm. And i took another ipill that night 9pm. Today it is 10th oct and it is 16th day since since my periods got over...i started having cramps n i bled blood which was darkest red/brownish tint. Please answer as to what could be the reason for this? Thank you.

Hello there, thanks for posting your query!
You must understand that I pill contains progestagen which acts like progesterone hormone in the body and is an emergency contraceptive intended for single use. Irregular bleeding is quite likely to happen when it is taken more than once as it contains a higher dose of progestagen and it sets in a hormonal imbalance and it could be your periods or a breakthrough bleeding. However, I suggest this hormonal imbalance is self limited and it usually resolves by itself.
Do keep a watch on menstrual flow. If your bleeding tends to be prolonged and doesn't stop you may need medications to stop it. In that case you must consult your gynaecologist.
Also, consider using oral contraceptives or condoms to avoid unwanted pregnancy rather having to resort to emergency contraception every time!
Hope this helps, take care!
