What Causes Brownish Pink Colored Vaginal Spotting During Pregnancy?

Hi, I m currently about six weeks pregnant. A few days ago, I started having light spotting, brownish/pink in color. It s still currently going on almost three days later, but very lightly. Then I remembered a few days ago, I sneezed and had a twinging pain in my uterus afterwards. I know the cervix is much more sensitive during pregnancy and certain things can irritate it. Could the spotting have been from the sneeze?! If not, should I be concerned and go to the doctor? I m getting worried, since the spotting hasn t completely stopped. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Mild bleeding or spotting during first trimester may not be of serious concern. Bed rest and avoiding strenuous work is important. Vaginal ultrasound should be taken to rule out miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
